Lord Coe Considering Ioc Presidential Run

Lord Coe, the current president of World Athletics, has hinted that he might run for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) when Thomas Bach steps down in 2025.

Speaking in Paris, Coe mentioned that he would seriously consider the opportunity, especially since he has been deeply involved in the Olympic movement for many years. He expressed pride in his various roles, including competing in the Olympics, chairing national committees, and leading the organization of the London 2012 Games.

However, Coe made it clear that he hasn’t officially declared his candidacy just yet. The IOC’s rules state that candidates cannot announce their intentions until three months before the election, which will occur in March 2025.

While discussing his qualifications, Coe noted that he has a wealth of experience in the Olympic arena. He emphasized the importance of having a range of candidates for the IOC presidency, suggesting that there are many talented individuals within the Olympic movement who could also be suitable for the role.

After 12 years of leadership, Bach stated the need for a change, emphasizing that new times call for new leaders. Coe echoed this sentiment, urging other qualified individuals to consider running as well.

The former middle-distance runner also touched on the need for clearer policies regarding various issues, particularly surrounding the female categories in sports, highlighting the importance of fairness and scientific reasoning.
