Lorde Announces Release Date for New Album ‘Virgin’

LOS ANGELES, CA
New Zealand singer Lorde has announced her new album, titled “Virgin,” set to release on June 27 via Republic Records. This will be her first album since 2021’s “Solar Power.” The news comes just after the debut of her latest single, “What Was That,” which was released on April 24.
In a statement, Lorde revealed that the album features 11 tracks and described it as “100% written in blood.” The cover art shows a blue-tinted X-ray of a pelvis, which includes a visible zipper and an IUD amidst the bones.
“The colour of the album is clear. Like bathwater, windows, ice, spit. Full transparency,” she wrote to her fans. “The language is plain and unsentimental. I was trying to see myself, all the way through. I was trying to make a document that reflected my femininity: raw, primal, innocent, elegant, openhearted, spiritual, masc.”
Produced by Lorde and Jim-E Stack, with contributions from Grammy-winning producer Dan Nigro and others, the album aims to showcase her evolution as an artist. “I’m proud and scared of this album. There’s nowhere to hide,” she added. “I believe that putting the deepest parts of ourselves to music is what sets us free.”
The single, “What Was That,” was promoted with a surprise appearance in Washington Square Park, where she previewed the song for an enthusiastic crowd. The event was filmed and included in the track’s music video, which dropped shortly after.
Lorde’s previous albums include her acclaimed debut, “Pure Heroine,” and her sophomore record, “Melodrama.” After several isolated releases and collaborations in recent years, she expressed excitement for her return. In a voice note, she hinted, “everything is about to change. I’m so ready.”
As she prepares for the album’s launch, fans are eagerly awaiting what the new sound will bring.
