Los Angeles and Atlanta Clinch Playoff Spots in TGL Doubleheader

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida – The TGL league showcased thrilling matches Monday night at the SoFi Center, featuring a dramatic doubleheader that solidified playoff spots for both Los Angeles Golf Club and Atlanta Drive Golf Club.
In the first match, Los Angeles Golf Club faced off against New York Golf Club. After securing their initial win of the season against Boston Common Golf last week, New York was eager for another victory. However, Los Angeles had other plans.
Los Angeles fell behind early, as New York seized a 4-0 advantage. But a strong performance from Tony Finau, who made his TGL debut, sparked a comeback for LAGC. Finau secured crucial points alongside teammates Sahith Theegala and Collin Morikawa. The team gradually turned the tables, ultimately winning 5-4 in overtime, and clinched the first playoff spot of the season.
“I just tried to stay focused and contribute where I could,” said Finau, whose presence added a competitive edge to the team. “It felt great to help turn the match around after a tough start.”
In the second match, Boston Common Golf, led by Rory McIlroy, sought its first victory against Atlanta Drive Golf Club. Despite an early lead by Boston, the match took a turn. Atlanta Drive, with key contributions from Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, and Patrick Cantlay, rallied to win the match 6-3, thus securing their own playoff berth.
“We knew it was a must-win for us, but Atlanta came out strong,” McIlroy said after the match. “We couldn’t hold our lead, and they executed their play exceptionally well.”
The evening included remarkable moments, particularly in putts. Rickie Fowler set a league record with a 36-foot putt for New York, only to be surpassed by his teammate Cameron Young, who made a 38-foot putt, setting a new standard for the inaugural season.
Finau also made a pivotal 10-foot birdie putt on Hole 13, narrowing the gap for Los Angeles. Morikawa subsequently tied the match in an outstanding performance during overtime. The match exemplified the thrilling action TGL aims to deliver.
Meanwhile, as Boston struggled, they fell further behind. Despite McIlroy and Matsuyama returning competitive shots, their lapses opened doors for Atlanta to extend their lead, culminating in Boston’s elimination from postseason contention.
The TGL continues to innovate the sport, blending technology with live play, attracting golf fans with its modern twist on traditional competition. With finals approaching, excitement looms around the remaining matches and potential outcomes.
