Archer Aviation Air Taxi 2028 Olympics

Los Angeles, CA — Spectators at the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games may soar above the city’s notorious traffic thanks to a new air taxi service. LA28, the organizing committee for the Games, announced a partnership with Archer Aviation on Thursday to provide flying taxis during the event.

Archer Aviation aims to use its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft to transport fans between major venues, allowing trips that could take as little as 10 to 20 minutes. Archer’s CEO, Adam Goldstein, expressed optimism about receiving certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in time for the Games, adding, “We want to transform the way people get around Los Angeles and leave a legacy that shapes the future of transportation in America.”

The eVTOL, known as Midnight, can carry four passengers and is designed to be quieter and more environmentally friendly than traditional helicopters. Although Archer has not finalized pricing details, Goldstein intends to keep rates comparable to premium ride-hailing services like Uber.

In a statement, Casey Wasserman, president of LA28, emphasized the opportunity to showcase Los Angeles. “This partnership represents an incredible opportunity to deliver something unprecedented,” he said. The air taxis will operate from vertiports located at key venues, including SoFi Stadium and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The LA Games, set to attract millions of visitors, are the third Olympics hosted in Los Angeles, following the events in 1984 and 1932. City officials are also implementing measures to limit car traffic during the Games, which poses challenges with the expected 15 million attendees. Archer has already conducted numerous test flights and is focused on ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

As others in the industry face hurdles, such as approval delays and battery concerns, Archer remains hopeful. The company is also collaborating with major investors like Boeing and United Airlines. The 2028 Olympics serve as a critical launchpad for Archer to introduce its air taxis to the world, illustrating a shift toward innovative urban transport.
