St. Louis Snow Plows Clearing Streets

ST. LOUIS — Snow plows have been working tirelessly across the St. Louis region for days following a recent snowstorm, and their efforts are far from over. A new winter system is expected to bring additional snowfall early Friday, prompting local officials to urge residents for patience and cooperation.

“The National Weather Service is warning about the wintry mix headed our way,” St. Louis County Executive Sam Page said on Thursday. “Our Department of Transportation and Public Works will work around the clock to keep our roads and streets passable.”

Officials are also asking drivers to move their cars off the streets to allow plows to clear snow more effectively. St. Louis City Mayor Tishaura Jones emphasized that it would be “almost impossible” to properly plow city streets without damaging parked vehicles. “Move parked cars from the street to help snow plows clear your road. Use driveways and garages for parked cars until snow removal operations are complete,” the City of St. Peters advised in a press release.

Residents who ignored warnings or lacked alternative parking options faced significant challenges after Monday’s storm. Many in north St. Louis reported being unable to move their vehicles and expressed concerns about icy conditions. “This street is dangerous. How am I gonna get out?” said 90-year-old Jernice Jones, who relies on her son for transportation to medical appointments. “I need to keep that appointment because I got blood clots in both of my legs.”

The ongoing snow and ice have also led to the closure of numerous government buildings, while city workers continue to mobilize to assist with cleanup efforts. Officials are urging residents to stay off the roads if possible and to allow plows the space they need to operate safely.
