LSU Hosts South Carolina for Homecoming After Bye Week

BATON ROUGE, La. — After a bye week, the LSU Tigers (4-1) are back in action on Saturday night, hosting the South Carolina Gamecocks (3-2) for homecoming at Tiger Stadium. The game kicks off at 6:55 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on the SEC Network and the LSU Sports Radio Network.
LSU looks to bounce back after suffering their first loss of the season against Ole Miss, where they fell 24-19. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier struggled to support a defense that performed well against the Rebels. “We know what’s in front of us,” said head coach Brian Kelly. “Outstanding teams who are nationally ranked. This is the part of the season where teams begin to show what they’re made of.”
The LSU defense has performed strongly, limiting opponents to an average of 12.2 points and 293.0 total yards per game, including forcing eight turnovers so far this season. The Tigers rank second in the SEC with seven interceptions. On Saturday, LSU will also honor Doug Moreau, a former player and broadcaster, for his significant contributions to the program.
South Carolina is led by quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who has thrown for 886 yards and four touchdowns this season. Rahsul Faison is the leading rusher for the Gamecocks with 163 yards and three touchdowns. South Carolina is focused on improving their offensive consistency, averaging 308 yards per game, which places them among the lowest in the nation.
“We have to have a plan in place to stop the QB run,” Kelly noted about Sellers. “He operates best when he gets outside the pocket.” Defensively, the Gamecocks have standout linebacker Dylan Stewart, who has 22 tackles and 3.5 sacks this season.
In their last meeting, LSU managed a comeback victory against South Carolina, winning 36-33 after being down 17-0 in Columbia. The Tigers lead the all-time series at 20-2-1, including a strong record at home.
The excitement is building for the homecoming game, and LSU fans are eager to see if the Tigers can get back on track after their recent setback.
