LOS ANGELES, CA — Director Luca Guadagnino is in negotiations to helm a new film titled ‘Artificial‘ at Amazon MGM Studios. This project comes after his previous film, ‘Sgt. Rock,’ was pushed back a year.

Sources indicate that Guadagnino is looking to gather a robust cast, with actors Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro, and Yura Borisov reportedly in early talks to star in the movie. The film’s plot will focus on a conflict within an artificial intelligence company in 2023, centering on CEO Sam Altman‘s firing and subsequent rehiring within just a few days.

Simon Rich has written the screenplay and is set to produce alongside David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford from Heyday Films. Jennifer Fox is also in discussions to join the production team.

Production for ‘Artificial’ is expected to begin quickly, with plans to shoot in San Francisco and Italy this summer, contingent on finalizing cast contracts. If all goes according to plan, Garfield is anticipated to portray Altman, while Barbaro would take on the role of chief technology officer Mira Murati, and Borisov would play co-founder Ilya Sutskever.

This will mark the third collaboration between Guadagnino and Amazon MGM Studios, following his direction of ‘After the Hunt‘ and ‘Challengers,’ both of which received positive attention.

Previously, Guadagnino intended to shoot ‘Sgt. Rock,’ featuring Colin Farrell, but plans changed when the project faced delays due to ‘daylight issues.’ Ironically, it appears that ‘Artificial’ will enter production before ‘Sgt. Rock’ resumes.
