Luka Doncic Lakers Preseason Game

PHOENIX, Arizona — Luka Doncic made a strong debut with the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night, scoring 25 points in a preseason matchup against the Phoenix Suns. However, the Lakers fell short, losing 113-104 at the Mortgage Matchup Center.

Doncic, who recently returned from a successful EuroBasket tournament, demonstrated his skills with seven rebounds and four assists in just 22 minutes of play. This was his first game since joining the Lakers, and he showcased his trademark playmaking ability with dazzling passes and impressive shooting from beyond the arc.

“It was just amazing to be back out there,” Doncic said after the game. “I missed playing basketball and I think that showed tonight.” His energy was contagious, as he helped the Lakers take a 10-point lead into halftime.

Despite Doncic’s standout performance, the Lakers struggled in the second half. The Suns capitalized on turnovers and defensive lapses, outscoring Los Angeles 33-17 in the third quarter. Former Laker Jordan Goodwin led the Suns’ comeback with 24 points, while teammate Jared Butler scored a game-high 35.

Head coach JJ Redick acknowledged the mixed feelings after the game, praising Doncic’s competitive spirit but emphasizing the need for consistency. “Luka fits in easily with our team, but we have to play right every time,” Redick said. “This game was a step back in that regard.”

LeBron James did not play due to sciatica, and other key players were also sidelined, limiting the Lakers’ options as they prepare for the regular season. Despite the loss, Redick remains optimistic about his team’s progress.

Doncic’s performance raised hopes among Lakers fans, but it was evident that the team still has work to do before the season begins. The Lakers now sit at 1-3 in the preseason with one game left before the official start of the NBA season.
