Lulu Sun Tennis Match Guangzhou

GUANGZHOU, China – Lulu Sun, New Zealand‘s top-ranked female tennis player, secured her spot in the main draw of the WTA 250 tournament by winning her second-round qualifying match on Monday.

The 24-year-old Kiwi defeated Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah from France, winning 6-2, 6-2. Coincidentally, it took the same amount of time to beat local player Li Yuyao in the first round, just under an hour.

Despite not serving any aces in this match, Sun maintained a solid performance, breaking Rakotomanga Rajaonah’s serve four times. She remained unbroken throughout the match, showcasing her strong form, which includes 11 wins in her last 13 matches since the US Open.

Sun’s current world ranking stands at 124, which denied her direct entry into the main draw. However, by winning the qualifying rounds, she has now advanced to play in her first WTA 250 tournament since competing at Eastbourne in June, where she notable defeated then-world No. 16 Daria Kasatkina.

As the tournament progresses, the top two seeds, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Ann Li, are also prepared to face qualifiers in their opening matches once all qualifying matches conclude.
