Stapleford Park Hotel in Leicestershire has closed its doors, leaving couples and guests in shock as they received emails canceling all upcoming events, including weddings. The luxury venue announced it would be going into liquidation, effective immediately, and has since ceased all trading activities and bookings.

Among those affected is the couple Amie Henson and Dan Lee from Syston in Leicestershire, who were planning to hold their wedding reception at the hotel. The couple, who had already paid a £3,000 deposit for their May wedding, expressed their dismay upon receiving the cancellation notice. Mr. Lee stated, “I opened my emails and I was flabbergasted. I was just in shock.”

The couple described the situation as “heartbreaking,” highlighting that their entire wedding plan, including the church booking and honeymoon, was organized around the Stapleford Park venue. Ms. Henson mentioned that their guests had also fully paid for 30 hotel rooms, resulting in financial loss for those friends and relatives.

Stapleford Park Hotel, previously known for accommodating celebrities such as the late pop star Michael Jackson, issued a statement apologizing for the inconvenience. The hotel’s management noted in an email, “Management have little option but to cease to trade with immediate effect.”

Leonard Curtis, a firm specializing in insolvency procedures, has been appointed to handle the liquidation process. In a separate communication, the firm cited adverse trading conditions and the financial state of Stapleford Park Limited as the reasons behind the hotel’s closure. Representatives from Leonard Curtis are expected to contact affected customers to provide further details about their bookings.

The BBC has reached out to Leonard Curtis for an additional comment on the proceedings. Meanwhile, the affected couple is actively seeking an alternative venue for their wedding and hope to receive a promising response soon.
