Madea Returns in ‘Destination Wedding’ as Tyler Perry Expands Netflix Partnership
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Tyler Perry‘s iconic character Madea is back for her 13th film, “Madea’s Destination Wedding,” set to premiere on Netflix in 2025. The film, which follows the family’s chaotic trip to the Bahamas for a surprise wedding, marks Perry’s second Madea project with the streaming giant after the success of “A Madea Homecoming” in 2022.
Perry, who writes, directs, stars, and produces the film, reunites with familiar franchise faces, including Cassi Davis Patton as Aunt Bam, Tamela J. Mann as Cora, and David Mann as Mr. Brown. The plot centers on Madea’s nephew Brian (also played by Perry) and his ex-wife Debrah (Taja V. Simpson), who are stunned to learn their daughter Tiffany (Diamond White) is engaged to a rapper she met on a yacht — with the wedding just two weeks away.
“Madea’s Destination Wedding” is part of Perry’s expanded creative partnership with Netflix, which includes five film and TV projects set for release in 2025. Among them are the comedy series “She The People,” starring Terri J. Vaughn as a lieutenant governor navigating political and family challenges, and the second part of the drama series “Beauty in Black,” which debuted in October 2023.
Perry’s collaboration with Netflix has proven successful, with “A Madea Homecoming” spending four weeks at No. 1 on the platform’s Global Top 10 Films List in 2022. The new Madea film promises to deliver the same raucous humor and family drama that fans have come to expect from the franchise.
In addition to the Madea film, Perry’s 2025 slate includes “Straw,” a drama starring Taraji P. Henson as a single mother facing unexpected challenges, and “R&B,” a modern retelling of the biblical story of Ruth and Boaz. The latter, directed by Alanna Brown and written by Mike Elliott and Cory Tynan, features a star-studded cast, including Serayah McNeill, Tyler Lepley, and Phylicia Rashad.
Perry’s partnership with Netflix continues to expand, with the streamer set to release more of his films and series, including “She The People” and “Beauty in Black Season 1, Part 2.” Fans can also look forward to catching up on Perry’s previous works, such as “Acrimony” and “The Family That Preys,” ahead of the new releases.
