Magnitude 4.2 Earthquake Jolts Central California
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 was recorded in central California early Sunday, as announced by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). According to the USGS, the seismic activity was observed at 2:47 a.m. local time, approximately 2 miles northwest of Aromas, with a depth of 7.4 kilometers (or roughly 4.59 miles).
Local media reported no immediate injuries or significant property damage resulting from the tremor. Aromas is situated around 94 miles south of San Francisco, drawing attention due to the lack of damaging impact given its proximity to more densely populated areas.
The quake was also reported by authorities in Santa Cruz County, noting it occurred at roughly 2:53 a.m. The epicenter was determined to be about 3 miles northwest of Aromas, just east of Watsonville, a region where tremors were reportedly felt, notably in parts of the South Bay.
Officials emphasized that the earthquake did not result in any recorded damage. Nevertheless, it serves as a reminder of California’s seismic activity, prompting local communities to consider earthquake preparedness measures.
