Malayan Actor Baburaj Accused of Sexual Abuse by Junior Artiste
In recent developments within the Malayalam film industry, popular actor and producer Baburaj has been accused of sexual abuse by a junior artiste. According to reports from Mathrubhumi, the alleged incident took place at Baburaj’s residence in Aluva, Kerala, in 2019.
The junior artiste claims that Baburaj, who serves as the Joint Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), invited her to his home under the pretense of discussing a potential role in a film. She was led to believe that other filmmakers would also be present during her visit.
Upon arriving at the location, the woman stated that she found herself alone with Baburaj. She alleges that he subsequently requested her to rest in a room while waiting for others. It was during this time that she claims he entered the room and began to sexually assault her.
After the incident, the woman reportedly fled from the premises and has had no further contact with Baburaj. She mentioned that Baburaj continued to send her inappropriate messages via WhatsApp, to which she did not respond.
The junior artiste suggested that Baburaj may have harassed other women in the industry who are too afraid to come forward with their stories. Furthermore, she alleged that attempts were made by others in the industry to exploit her through meetings arranged for roles in films.
Baburaj has publicly denied the allegations and stated that he anticipates such claims following the recent Hema Committee report. He has expressed intentions to take legal action against the junior artiste, claiming that the allegations are part of a conspiracy to obstruct his potential rise to the position of AMMA general secretary.
This incident has surfaced in the wake of growing discussions about sexual misconduct within the Malayalam film industry, prompting several individuals to share their experiences of harassment.
