Mark Cuban Mustang Texas Town Purchase

NEW YORK, NY — Billionaire investor Mark Cuban has made headlines with his recent purchase of the small Texas town of Mustang for approximately $20 million. This quirky investment was revealed during an appearance on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show,’ where Cuban explained that it was simply ‘the only town in Texas available for sale.’

The acquisition resembles a comedic scenario from the TV series ‘Schitt's Creek,’ in which a wealthy family buys a town as a joke only to end up living there after losing their fortune. When asked about the responsibilities of owning a town, Cuban humorously indicated that he had appointed a friend as mayor, whose main tasks involve ‘cleaning the trash and keeping the place tidy.’

Initially a spontaneous purchase, Cuban later recognized the entrepreneurial potential of Mustang. He envisions transforming the town into ‘Dinosaur, Texas,’ leveraging a connection with a company called Dino Don, which specializes in producing dinosaur animatronics. Dino Don CEO Don Lessem received a $500,000 investment from Cuban in exchange for a 25% stake during a pitch on ‘Shark Tank‘ back in 2021.

The plan is to establish a dinosaur-themed attraction reminiscent of ‘Jurassic Park‘ to draw visitors, thus creating new revenue streams for both Mustang and Dino Don. The company has a solid reputation for its dynamic dinosaur exhibitions across various venues, having engaged over five million guests worldwide even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cuban sees significant financial potential in the enterprise, predicting that annual revenues for Dino Don could grow to around $10 million due to the popularity of dinosaur attractions, with costs to create animatronics averaging about $5,000 each.

Additionally, Cuban’s investment portfolio reveals his inclination towards blending entertainment with business, as he also supports other entertainment-focused enterprises, including Ten Thirty-One Productions, known for live horror experiences.

Mark Cuban’s strategy in buying Mustang exemplifies an unconventional approach to investment by integrating fun with business, and his vision for ‘Dinosaur, Texas’ could redefine the town’s future.
