Mark Duplass Shares His Ideal Sunday Routine in Valley Village

VALLEY VILLAGE, Calif. — Actor and filmmaker Mark Duplass revealed how he spends an ideal Sunday with his family, emphasizing relaxation and simple pleasures while residing in Valley Village.
Duplass, best known for his work in “Good American Family” on Hulu, describes his Sunday mornings as a time to reconnect with family and enjoy everyday rituals. “Be prepared,” he warns. “There’s not gonna be a lot of leaving the house today.”
Starting his day around 7:30 a.m., Duplass enjoys the companionship of his two children and pets. Known affectionately as “the T-Man,” he humorously notes that the title is derived from his role as the treat-giver for his dogs.
After a coffee ritual, featuring his preferred mix of chocolate, cinnamon, and sugar, Duplass heads to the home gym for a 20-minute workout on the elliptical, followed by a 40-minute walk with his dogs, which he uses as a meditative break.
“Good mental health is vital,” he states. Duplass incorporates a hot and cold plunge routine in his home spa setup, a strategy he finds beneficial both physically and mentally.
For lunch, Duplass embraces leftovers, a practice rooted in his upbringing in Louisiana. “I’m ‘the Leftovers Man,’” he says. Cooking up meals with remaining ingredients becomes a family bonding activity as the group gathers around the table.
By mid-afternoon, Duplass envisions a trip to Vidiots, the nonprofit movie theater he co-founded, for a family-friendly film or an indie screening, which he refers to as his “church.” He fondly recalls visiting similar cultural venues in his youth across various cities.
A casual late afternoon drink at a local bar follows his movie outing, allowing him to unwind further before family game time begins.
Duplass stresses the importance of family evenings, where they can enjoy food from Zankou Chicken while playing games like Rummikub and reminiscing over old family memories. “We have hundreds of memories,” he remarks, highlighting the comfort of shared time with loved ones.
As night approaches, Duplass and his family settle in for the evening with a show on TV, transitioning into quiet reading time before bed. He shares how a consistent schedule helps manage his mental health challenges, noting he has been on citalopram for over 16 years.
“I try to center myself before I zonk out,” he says, adding that reflecting on gratitude helps enhance his state of mind.
