Martha Stewart Reveals Matthew McConaughey’s Method Acting ‘Scared’ Her

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — Martha Stewart shared her surprising experience working with Matthew McConaughey, revealing that his intense method acting left her feeling intimidated during the filming of an Uber Eats Super Bowl commercial.
In a recent episode of her podcast, Stewart discussed the unique dynamic between her and McConaughey, describing her encounter with the actor as ‘wild.’ The conversation took place while she was speaking with actress Kate Hudson, who has previously co-starred with McConaughey in films such as ‘Fool’s Gold’ and ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.’
‘So I just worked with your co-star Matthew McConaughey,’ Stewart said, prompting Hudson to inquire about McConaughey’s acting style. Stewart responded with a laugh, ‘He got me scared actually.’
Stewart, who played a board member for Uber Eats making a Caesar salad in the ad, noted that McConaughey’s process was quite remarkable, as he portrayed a total of ten different characters during the shoot. ‘He is a method actor, I think,’ she explained. ‘It takes him about 15 minutes to get into each character.’
During her account, Stewart recounted McConaughey’s vigorous warm-up routine, which included grunting, jumping, and breathing exercises. ‘He’s grunting and breathing and jumping up and down. And that scared me,’ she admitted. Hudson seemed to understand Stewart’s apprehension and added, ‘He makes sounds and does crazy things.’
Despite the intimidation factor, both women agreed that McConaughey is a joy to work with. Hudson chuckled as she recalled getting accustomed to his quirky preparations, saying, ‘You probably just wanted to tell him to shut the hell up.’ Stewart joked in response, saying, ‘You wait, it’s like his warm-up.’
The Super Bowl ad, which aired on February 9, featured McConaughey portraying various historical football characters, including iconic Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka. The commercial humorously poked fun at the notion of football being a facade to sell food, with McConaughey hinting that even the term ‘bowl’ is tied to this idea.
Stewart humorously described a moment in the ad where McConaughey cleverly pointed out the significance of the Caesar salad in relation to the Super Bowl. In one scene, he remarked, ‘A Caesar salad, in a bowl… I see what you’re doing here. It’s obviously a Super Bowl.’
Though her initial reactions to McConaughey’s creative methods may have been mixed, Stewart, who is 83, ultimately reiterated the enjoyable collaboration as she described him as ‘one of the most fun people to work with,’ citing their shared competitiveness.
