Marti Pellow Reflects On 30 Year Musical Journey And Upcoming Tour

Marti Pellow, the renowned lead vocalist of Wet Wet Wet, graced the set of Lorraine to discuss his enduring musical career, marking three decades since the release of the chart-topping single ‘Love Is All Around‘. At 58, Pellow exuded his age-defying charm while promoting his much-anticipated upcoming tour ‘Popped In Souled Out’.

During the interview, Pellow reminisced about his early songwriting days, expressing gratitude for the journey that brought him back to the music he crafted as a teenager. Reflecting on his upcoming tour, which kicks off on March 10 in Dublin, the singer shared his excitement about reconnecting with fans who have grown up alongside his iconic music.

The upcoming tour promises a nostalgic trip down memory lane, featuring beloved hits like ‘Goodnight Girl’, ‘Angel Eyes’, ‘Temptation’, and, of course, ‘Love Is All Around’. Pellow humorously recounted anecdotes from fans, some jokingly suggesting that his music might have served as the romantic soundtrack for many couples.

Notably, Pellow’s departure from Wet Wet Wet in 2017 paved the way for Kevin Simm, known for his work with Liberty X, to step into the role of lead singer. Despite the band’s evolution, Pellow extended his best wishes for their future endeavors, drawing comparisons to iconic bands like Spandau Ballet and Queen who navigated similar transitions.

Wet Wet Wet’s monumental success during the ’80s and ’90s, culminating in the record-breaking stint of ‘Love Is All Around’ at the top of the UK charts in 1994, remains a defining chapter in music history. Following disagreements within the band, they eventually disbanded after the release of their 1997 album ’10’.

While the group briefly reformed in 2004 and released ‘Timeless’, Pellow decided to part ways for good in 2017. Despite the band’s intricate past, Pellow admitted to minimal contact with former bandmates Graeme Clark, Neil Mitchell, and Tommy Cunningham, hinting at the complexities of their shared history.
