Marvel Rivals Unveils Human Torch Ahead of February 21 Launch

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 18, 2025 — NetEase Games has revealed a new character trailer for the action hero-shooter Marvel Rivals, showcasing the Human Torch, Johnny Storm, who will join the game on February 21 as part of the mid-season update.

The trailer, though under a minute long, provides a glimpse into the gameplay mechanics and abilities of the Human Torch, a member of the Fantastic Four. Players will soon have the opportunity to harness Storm’s fiery powers on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

“Players can expect to turn up the heat with fire projectiles and the ability to fly and hover for aerial attacks,” a representative from NetEase stated. “With his Super Nova ultimate ability, he promises to bring intense action to the battlefield.”

The Human Torch marks the second character from the Fantastic Four to join Marvel Rivals, following the addition of Invisible Woman earlier this season. The Thing is also set to be introduced in the same update.

In addition to his traditional fireball attack that leaves a burnt area on the ground, the Human Torch can execute a dive attack that inflicts damage and creates area-of-effect knocking impacts. He can also form a square of fire that damages opponents crossing its edges.

“It’s an exciting development for players, especially those who love fast-paced, high-impact gameplay,” said Adam Benjamin, managing editor. “The combination of aerial mobility and high-damage potential could make Johnny a fan favorite.”

Additionally, the trailer showcased his synergy with Storm, forming a powerful team-up ability that enhances her ultimate, creating a fiery tornado for increased damage output.

The upcoming mid-season update will also introduce a new map set in Central Park, along with various gameplay enhancements and rewards for players as part of a new battle pass system.

The Human Torch and The Thing follow a growing roster of characters, which already includes fan-favorites like Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic. Previously, Marvel Rivals launched with great success, attracting over 20 million players since the start of Season 1 in January 2025.
