Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme Empowering Future Engineers
The Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme continues to empower aspiring engineers, with recent recipient Allison Klaason graduating with a civil engineering degree in December 2023. The programme focuses on providing not only financial support but also mentorship and training to help participants achieve professional registration in their fields.
Allison Klaason, a talented graduate, is currently gaining hands-on experience as a site engineer with a Department of Infrastructure (DOI) partner company. Her dedication to improving transport systems drives her ambition to pursue further studies and earn professional recognition from the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
Reflecting on her journey, Allison expressed gratitude to the Masakh’iSizwe programme for their unwavering support, covering not just tuition fees but also essential expenses like accommodation and books. She highlighted the exceptional assistance from the bursary team, which made her university experience smoother.
The Western Cape Government, through the Department of Infrastructure, recently awarded bursaries to promising students starting engineering or infrastructure-related studies at prestigious institutions like Stellenbosch University (SU), the University of Cape Town (UCT), or the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). These bursaries offer both financial aid and the requirement for recipients to work for the DOI for a set period after graduation.
Young individuals interested in pursuing degrees or diplomas in engineering, the built environment, or other infrastructure fields are encouraged to apply for the Masakh’iSizwe Bursary Programme for the upcoming academic year. This initiative not only supports students financially but also prepares them for successful careers in the engineering sector.
