Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Unveils Fall Sports Rankings

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) released its first power rankings for the Fall season on Friday. The organization posted rankings for field hockey, football, volleyball, and boys’ and girls’ soccer, outlining the teams eligible for postseason play.
According to the rankings, the top 32 girls’ soccer teams in each division will qualify for the playoffs, along with any teams maintaining a winning record of 50 percent or higher. In football, the top 16 teams with at least three wins in seven games played in each division will make the playoffs.
In girls’ soccer, Wellesley tops the rankings with a current record of 4-0 and an average margin of victory of 2.200. Following Wellesley are Bishop Feehan and Lexington, both showcasing strong performances this season.
“These rankings give teams a clear view of where they stand as we move deeper into the season,” said MIAA spokesperson Mary Lou Thimas. “We encourage schools to continue competing at their best to secure their positions.”
On the football side, St. John's Prep leads the rankings with a record of 3-0, boasting an average margin of 25.79 in their games. Springfield Central and Central Catholic follow closely behind, indicating a competitive atmosphere as teams vie for playoff positions.
“We’ve seen great enthusiasm from fans and players alike. It’s an exciting time for high school sports,” said Thimas. “As schools engage in their respective conferences, every game counts towards their playoff goals.”
The upcoming weeks will prove crucial as teams compete not just for victories, but also for their spots in the playoffs based on these newly released rankings.
