NEW YORK, NY — A24’s romance film, ‘Materialists,’ grossed $104 million at the box office and is set to premiere on HBO Max on November 7, with a linear debut on Saturday, November 8, at 8 PM EST.

Directed and written by Celine Song, the film stars Dakota Johnson as a young, ambitious matchmaker in New York City. She struggles to choose between a wealthy suitor, played by Pedro Pascal, and her imperfect ex-boyfriend, portrayed by Chris Evans, who is a struggling actor.

‘Materialists’ will arrive on HBO Max after a 147-day theatrical window. The movie opened to $11.3 million in the domestic box office before concluding its U.S./Canada run with $36.5 million, plus nearly $66 million from international markets, handled by Sony.

The film received a 78 percent certified fresh rating from critics and achieved a B- CinemaScore from audiences, sparking debates over its ending.

Deadline’s Chief Film Critic Pete Hammond praised the cast, stating, ‘Song has cast her three leads to perfection. Johnson excels in capturing the insecurity behind her character’s confident facade. Evans reveals his underrated acting skills as a struggling artist finding love, while Pascal, in a complex role, showcases genuine humanity.’

As excitement builds for its release, ‘Materialists’ promises to engage viewers with its unique storytelling and dynamic performances.
