Matilda The Musical Uk Tour

The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced a major development in the realm of musical theatre as “Matilda The Musical” is set to commence its second extensive tour of the UK and Ireland in 2025. The highly acclaimed production, based on Roald Dahl’s beloved novel, will start performances at the Curve Theatre in Leicester on October 6, 2025, while continuing its ongoing run in London’s West End.

“Matilda The Musical” narrates the tale of a resolute young girl whose imaginative perspective helps her navigate life’s challenges. The musical has earned over 100 awards globally, with 24 specific accolades for Best Musical. Its famed musical numbers include “Quiet,” “Naughty,” “When I Grow Up,” and “Revolting Children.” A film adaptation was released in 2022 and is available on Netflix.

The musical’s creative force includes writer Dennis Kelly, composer and lyricist Tim Minchin, and director Matthew Warchus. The production team features Rob Howell on design, Peter Darling responsible for choreography, Christopher Nightingale overseeing orchestrations and musical supervision, with Hugh Vanstone, Simon Baker, and Paul Kieve handling lighting, sound, and special effects respectively.

Reflecting on the show’s enduring success, Tim Minchin stated, “When we first started working on the show, our aim was to make a lovely little jewel of a musical for the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. We never imagined that all these years later it would still be running in the West End, have been made into a film, and is now about to embark on its second tour of the UK and Ireland. I’m deeply proud of Matilda The Musical, and every single talented person who continues to work on it with passion and enthusiasm.”

The touring production will mark its 15th anniversary at the Curve Theatre, Leicester, where it will perform until October 25 before moving to various venues including Bradford’s Alhambra Theatre, Liverpool Empire, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Sunderland Empire, Edinburgh Playhouse, and Manchester Palace Theatre. Further dates and venues will be disclosed later.

Priority booking will be available for RSC members and theatre friends, along with ATG+ members, starting at 10 a.m. on October 22, 2024. General ticket sales will open on October 24, 2024, for most locations, excluding Leicester and Plymouth’s Theatre Royal. Casting and additional creative announcements are expected in due course.
