NEW YORK, NY — Actors Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine have signed a deal with AI audio company ElevenLabs, allowing the company to create AI-generated versions of their voices. This collaboration aims to address ethical challenges in the marriage of artificial intelligence and Hollywood.

The agreement permits ElevenLabs to translate McConaughey’s newsletter, “Lyrics of Livin’,” into Spanish using his own voice. McConaughey, who has invested in ElevenLabs since its founding in 2022, expressed his enthusiasm for the technology’s potential to connect with broader audiences. “I’ve been impressed by how the ElevenLabs team has taken the magic of the core technology and turned it into products,” he said in a statement.

Caine, at 92, has joined ElevenLabs’ Iconic Voice Marketplace, which allows brands to license celebrity voices for various projects. Caine stated, “For years, I’ve lent my voice to stories that moved people. With ElevenLabs, we can preserve and share voices— not just mine, but anyone’s.” He emphasized that the goal is to amplify rather than replace human voices.

The Iconic Voice Marketplace features a range of voices, including those of deceased stars like John Wayne and Judy Garland, along with living personalities like Liza Minnelli and Alan Turing. ElevenLabs aims to ethically source and license these voices, addressing industry concerns regarding AI’s encroachment into creative fields.

In recent months, ElevenLabs has gained attention within the industry, securing a valuation of approximately $6.6 billion amid rising partnerships with prominent celebrities. Other actors like Ashton Kutcher and Leonardo DiCaprio have also invested in AI, signaling a growing acceptance of these technologies. Mati Staniszewski, CEO of ElevenLabs, remarked that Caine’s voice will help enhance storytelling opportunities for new generations.

The partnership highlights an ongoing debate surrounding AI in entertainment, as some industry leaders advocate for embracing the technology, while others express concerns over its implications for human performers.
