The latest limited-time dessert offering from McDonald’s, the ‘Grandma McFlurry,’ has left customers scratching their heads with its confusing name and flavor profile. Released on Tuesday, this new treat is a departure from the fast-food chain’s usual McFlurry offerings like Oreo and M&M.

In a press release, McDonald’s described the ‘Grandma McFlurry’ as a blend of delicious syrup and chopped, crunchy candy pieces reminiscent of grandma’s favorite butterscotch hard candies. While some may find the choice of ‘grandma’ as a theme endearing, others are left wondering about the connection between grandmas and butterscotch candies.

Photos of the ‘Grandma McFlurry’ reveal that it features Werther’s Original butterscotch hard candies as the main flavor component. These candies are often associated with nostalgic memories of grandmas and their purses filled with treats.

For Jeremy Schneider, a food enthusiast and journalist, trying out the ‘Grandma McFlurry’ was a mix of excitement and confusion. While he appreciates the butterscotch flavor, he found the texture to be lacking. The presence of pie crust-like pieces in the dessert, alongside the butterscotch candy, created a chunky and slightly unpleasant mouthfeel.

Despite the flavorful butterscotch syrup and candy pieces, Schneider expressed a desire for a more authentic McFlurry experience, citing international variations such as the caramel popcorn McFlurry available in Canada and Europe. The ‘Grandma McFlurry,’ while unique, may not be everyone’s favorite choice among the McFlurry lineup.

As customers ponder the connection between grandmas and butterscotch candies, McDonald’s continues to experiment with new dessert offerings. Whether the ‘Grandma McFlurry’ will become a beloved classic or a quirky side note in the McFlurry menu remains to be seen.
