Shanghai, China — Daniil Medvedev recorded his 50th Top 10 win on Friday at the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai, defeating Alex De Minaur 6-4, 6-4. The victory put Medvedev into the semi-finals, marking his second such qualification this season.

The match was characterized by extended rallies, with over 32 points extending beyond nine shots. In a highly competitive encounter, Medvedev, 29, outperformed De Minaur, hitting 11 more winners (27-16) and committing two fewer unforced errors (25-27). In the second set, he won 15 of his 16 first-serve points to secure the win after an hour and 53 minutes.

“I was super tired and I knew against Alex, like against Learner, we would have long points,” Medvedev said of the physical nature of the match. “I think in the third or fourth game we had a couple and I thought it was going to be a long day, but I am happy with the way I played. I was really clutch in the important moments.”

Medvedev, a former champion in Shanghai in 2019, is chasing his first tour-level title since winning in Rome in May 2023. His next opponent will be revealed after the semi-final match between qualifier Valentin Vacherot and a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

De Minaur’s exit leaves him ranked seventh in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin, 640 points clear of the 10th position held by a sidelined opponent due to injury. He trails Medvedev 4-8 in their career meetings and aims to compete at the ATP Finals for the second consecutive year.
