Meek Mill Defends Himself Against ‘Slow’ Comment on Social Media

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Rapper Meek Mill sparked a heated exchange on social media over the weekend after a follower referred to him as “slow.” The 37-year-old, who actively engages with fans on the platform X (formerly Twitter), took the opportunity to showcase his accomplishments and challenge the critic.
On Sunday, March 2, Meek posted a photo from the REFORM Alliance conference, where he spoke to advocate for prison reform. The image displayed him in a hoodie while several attendees donned formal suits. In his caption, he stated, “I have 100 suits, nobody will ever notice that I wear hoodies to most speaking engagements on purpose so they can see me as a black man from the streets! Rip to Trayvon Martin!”
This assertion prompted criticism from a user who commented, “This ni**a a special kind of slow.” In response, Meek defended himself by sharing details about his financial success and community contributions. “I have millions in my bank account, respected by the streets and the wealthy… with over $30 million raised to fight the system with reform… all houses owned from my grandma and mom… and I look out for my community… let’s compare lives right here in front of the world lol,” he wrote.
Meek’s comments highlight the ongoing challenges he faces, including frequent online ridicule. The Philadelphia native has often found himself at the center of social media mockery, but he remains focused on his mission to advocate for social justice and inspire others.
During the REFORM Alliance conference, Meek also revisited personal experiences that shaped his perspective. He shared a reflection on a past memory, stating, “I first saw a black man in a suit in a casket. I used to be scared to dress up! If you didn’t come from that, you wouldn’t understand what I’m talking about at all! It’s cool.”
His music often addresses these topics as well. In his latest single “Proud of Me,” he reminisces about the pain of losing his father to gun violence. “I’m hanging out where my daddy lost his life, and I’m aware of that… I’d trade in all these riches to get Robbie back,” he raps.
Despite the negativity from some users, Meek continues to push forward with his advocacy and music career. His commitment to speaking out on social issues, combined with his personal experiences and achievements, resonates with many of his fans, underscoring the complexities of his journey as an artist committed to change.
