Megan Moroney Talks Friendship with Morgan Wallen and Performing with Ed Sheeran

Nashville, TN – Country singer Megan Moroney opened up about her connection with fellow artist Morgan Wallen during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE published on November 24. The 28-year-old singer described her friendships with the 32-year-old Wallen amid ongoing speculation surrounding their relationship.

Moroney, known for her hit song “Tennessee Orange,” stated, “I think Morgan is great and his new album [I’m the Problem] is great. Him and I are still friends.” Fans have linked Moroney and Wallen since she released “Tennessee Orange” in 2022. The two began exchanging comments on social media, sparking discussion among their followers.

In her interview, Moroney emphasized the importance of honesty in her songwriting. “I never let the possibility that people might speculate who [a song] is about, stop me from writing about how this situation made me feel,” she explained.

The speculation intensified when Moroney confirmed that the University of Tennessee shirt she wore in the artwork for “Tennessee Orange” belonged to Wallen. “I was honestly shocked that I said it was Wallen’s shirt,” she recalled. She noted that while the rumors made her uncomfortable, she appreciated that fans care about her music.

In July 2024, Moroney hinted at a past romantic connection with Wallen, saying they never dated exclusively. “I have tried to avoid that in every single interview I’ve ever done,” she said. When pressed about the inspiration behind “Tennessee Orange,” she firmly stated, “I will not say who I sing my songs about ever.”

Moroney also shared her experience of working with pop star Ed Sheeran, who reached out to her in March about performing at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. “I thought it was a joke,” she recalled, as she had vacation plans that weekend. Ultimately, she canceled her trip to join Sheeran, who hosted a writers’ round where Moroney debuted her new single “Beautiful Things.”

Reflecting on her time with Sheeran, Moroney expressed admiration for the artist and mentioned that he and his family appreciate her music. The two have stayed in touch since that performance, exchanging songs and ideas for collaboration. Moroney stated, “When the time is right and the song is right, it’ll happen, because I’m such a fan of his.”
