Megan Thee Stallion Granted 5-Year Restraining Order Against Tory Lanez
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Megan Thee Stallion has been granted a five-year restraining order against incarcerated rapper Tory Lanez, with the order set to expire on Jan. 9, 2030. The decision was made by Judge Richard Bloom on Thursday, following Megan’s claims that Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, has been harassing her from prison, where he is serving a 10-year sentence for shooting her in the foot in July 2020.
Megan, 29, testified via video call during the hearing, describing her fear of Lanez’s potential actions upon his release. “I feel like maybe he’ll shoot me again, and maybe this time I won’t make it,” she said. The rapper also accused Lanez of employing third-party “bloggers” to defame her while he is incarcerated.
In her complaint, Megan described Lanez as a “violent and dangerous criminal” with an “established pattern of behavior” that necessitated the restraining order. She initially filed for the order in December 2023, alleging that Lanez continued to subject her to “repeated trauma and revictimization.”
Lanez was convicted in December 2022 on three felony counts related to the 2020 shooting. Despite his conviction, his legal team has maintained his innocence and plans to appeal the verdict. Megan recounted the trauma of the incident in her Prime Video documentary, “Megan Thee Stallion: Her Words,” released in late 2024.
Megan previously had a restraining order against Lanez that was in effect from 2020 through 2023. The new order will remain in place until 2030, three years before Lanez is scheduled to be released from prison in 2033.
