Meghan Markle’s Potential Cameo in Suits Spinoff Sparks Excitement

LOS ANGELES, California — During the premiere of the new spinoff ‘Suits LA‘ on February 20, series creator Aaron Korsh addressed rumors surrounding a potential cameo by Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, who left the original series in 2018.

Korsh expressed that while Markle is always welcome to return, the logistics of reintroducing her character Rachel Zane into the new narrative might be complicated. “Obviously, if Meghan wants to come back under any circumstances, Meghan can come back,” he told PEOPLE. However, he noted, “I think realistically, it would be too much of an explosion of the fourth wall to do that.”

The creator made it clear that while her character could make a debut, doing so would be more challenging than it may seem. “We have thought about whether it be Meghan or any of the other cast members coming on and playing themselves as an actor,” said Korsh, describing the concept as overwhelming. “My brain blows up at the thought of that.”

‘Suits LA’ is set to premiere on February 23, showcasing a fresh cast in the same universe as the original series, which gained renewed popularity through streaming on platforms like Netflix. Markle portrayed Rachel Zane from season one and exited the show after 108 episodes, culminating in her character’s move to Seattle after marriage.

The spinoff’s announcement came following a resurgence of the original series, and Korsh acknowledged the show’s ability to stand on its own. “I think it resonates, and I’m really proud of the show,” he said.

Markle’s transition from actress to royal happened just before her wedding to Prince Harry on May 19, 2018, and Korsh had previously noted how his writing mirrored her real-life decisions. “I knew from a year ago that this relationship was burgeoning,” he shared back in 2017. As for a potential return, he suggests it would require more than just her presence to maintain the show’s authenticity and fan engagement.

“It’s a new chapter,” Markle stated in a past interview regarding her departure from acting. “And also, keep in mind, I’ve been working on [Suits] for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series.” Fans continue to hold out hope for a reunion, especially with ‘Suits LA’ set to explore new avenues while nodding to its roots.

As part of the spinoff, the show follows Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor who navigates a challenging new stage in his career representing high-profile clients in Los Angeles. Korsh reflected on the show’s trajectory, emphasizing the importance of crafting narratives that resonate with both new audiences and dedicated fans.

While Markle’s return remains an open conversation, Korsh’s comments suggest that any collaborative pathway would need to be carefully designed to coexist with the direction of the new series.
