NEW YORK CITY, NY — In a recent interview, Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay shared memories from their first audition for “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (SVU) over 25 years ago. They recalled the lighthearted atmosphere that marked their very first interaction.

During their audition, Hargitay mistakenly thought Meloni was another actor. “She turns to me and says, ‘So and so! You must be so and so!’” Meloni recalled. “I go, ‘No. Meloni.’ She goes, ‘Whatever! Hi!’” Hargitay laughed, reminiscing about their awkward yet charming first meeting.

The pair quickly hit it off, exhibiting a connection that many have described as magical. “I knew quickly that we had this kind of magical chemistry,” Hargitay stated. She noted that while they are polar opposites in personality, they complement each other perfectly.

Fast forward to today; Hargitay and Meloni remain close friends. Currently, Meloni stars in “Law & Order: Organized Crime” while Hargitay leads the cast of SVU. Their characters continue to interact on screen, keeping the bond alive for fans.

<p“She's fearless, always with the open arms and open heart," Meloni said during a 2021 speech honoring Hargitay, highlighting her ability to connect with people. “She sees hope in the hopeless; she sees the potential in the you, and me, and us.”

As SVU begins its summer hiatus, reruns will air on Thursday nights. The recent episode reminded fans of the impactful storytelling the series is known for, alongside new developments for Season 27, including the return of Kelli Giddish as series regular.

With Meloni and Hargitay’s special bond and the ongoing popularity of SVU, fans have much to look forward to in the upcoming season.
