MIAMI, FloridaMercedes-Benz has launched a special edition of its GT 63 supercar, the 2026 GT 63 “APXGP Edition,” in conjunction with the upcoming racing film, F1, which opens this summer. The reveal occurred during events related to the Miami Grand Prix on May 4, 2025.

The GT 63 “APXGP Edition” is designed to celebrate the fictional APXGP Formula 1 team and showcase a blend of racing excitement and cinematic flair, according to Michael Schiebe, chairman of the board of management for Mercedes-AMG. He stated, “F1 brilliantly intertwines the fictional APXGP team with the real-world.”

This limited edition will see only 52 units produced and features a powerful 577 hp, 4.0-liter biturbo V-8 engine, paired with AMG’s nine-speed automatic transmission and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. Although it does not include the race variant’s 805 hp setup, the vehicle is equipped with sophisticated features like an active rear-wheel steering system and a carbon fiber aerodynamic package.

The car is visually distinctive, showcasing a dark APXGP Edition paint scheme adorned with elaborate hand-painted graphics and highlights in Race Gold. Notable design components include checkered-flag motifs along the flanks and gold accents on the grille, fenders, and wheels.

While much attention is on the car, details about the film coming from Apple Original Films remain scarce. The film stars Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, an aspiring F1 driver searching for redemption. A trailer suggests a fierce rivalry with his teammate, Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, under the mentorship of Javier Bardem’s character.

The movie was filmed during real Formula 1 races, contributing to its pursuit of authenticity. Several present-day F1 drivers, including Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 driver George Russell, praised the film’s realistic portrayal of racing. Russell remarked, “They’ve done an incredible job, far better than I could have imagined.”

Mercedes-Benz also confirmed that its official F1 safety and medical cars will feature in the film, linking real-life racing history with the cinematic world. The GT 63 “APXGP Edition,” while heavy on aesthetics, is a celebration of both the automobile and the thrill of racing, set to hit roads and potential racetracks soon.

The new model is expected to command significant interest as F1 is set to debut globally on June 25, with North American releases following on June 27.
