Met Gala 2025 Celebrates Black Style with ‘Tailored for You’ Theme

New York City, NY — The 2025 Met Gala is set to celebrate Black style with its theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” focusing on the history and politics of how Black men dress. The event will take place on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This high-profile gala, known as fashion’s biggest night, includes a star-studded guest list and a $75,000 ticket price. Red carpet arrivals are scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET, featuring a no-phone policy for attendees.
This year’s livestream will be hosted by singer and actor Teyana Taylor, actor La La Anthony, and comedian Ego Nwodim. Viewers can catch the event on various platforms including Vogue’s YouTube channel.
Curated by Monica L. Miller, the exhibition explores themes around Black dandyism and personal expression through fashion. Miller explains, “Black style is really related to thinking about how fashion and power connect… Silhouettes change, use of pattern, color—all of those things change in relation to time and history.”
The theme is organized into 12 sections, examining traits such as ownership, distinction, and freedom. “Historically, made-to-wear clothing was not as available for Black people, so the tailor became a very important person in the community,” Miller noted.
The gala’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” hints at refined menswear styles that guests may choose. Influences could range from zoot suits popular in the 1940s to vibrant outfits worn by Congolese sapeurs.
This year’s co-chairs include noted figures such as Anna Wintour, Pharrell Williams, and A$AP Rocky, while LeBron James will serve as an honorary co-chair.
Although the Met Gala guest list is typically kept secret, past attendees include Rihanna, Zendaya, and Blake Lively. Kennedy heir Jack Schlossberg announced his boycott of this year’s event, expressing concerns over global issues.
The Met Gala continues to be a cultural moment, offering a glimpse into the latest fashion trends while celebrating the influence of Black style in contemporary culture.
