Met Gala 2025 Red Carpet Fashion

NEW YORK, May 5, 2025 — The annual Met Gala took center stage at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, bringing glamour and celebration to the iconic venue on Monday evening. Despite the rain, the atmosphere remained electric as designers, models, and celebrities ascended the blue carpet, showcasing their interpretations of this year’s theme.

The dress code, titled “Tailored for You,” was inspired by the Costume Institute’s upcoming exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The exhibit examines the significance of Black dandyism and its cultural impact. Dapper Dan, a prominent designer, emphasized the historical roots of dandyism, linking it to the zoot suits of the 1940s and the Harlem Renaissance.

This year marked the first Met Gala dress code focused specifically on menswear, encouraging a fresh reinterpretation of tailoring traditions. Attendees showcased a variety of inventive suiting styles, from Doja Cat’s bold 1980s-inspired Marc Jacobs ensemble to Tessa Thompson’s wide-lapeled jacket.

Among the night’s highlights was Janelle Monáe, who made a statement with a suit-within-a-suit look. Initial garments included a jacket printed to resemble a suit, which she later removed to reveal a Thom Browne outfit inspired by time travelers. Other standout looks included Zendaya‘s elegant Louis Vuitton three-piece outfit and Lupita Nyong’o‘s stunning aquamarine Chanel ensemble.

Fashion also took center stage for the men, with Regé-Jean Page and Bad Bunny donning vibrant, theatrical suits that paid homage to the evening’s theme. Co-chair Colman Domingo honored André Leon Talley with his dramatic blue Valentino cape. Lewis Hamilton also embraced sartorial flair with a customized ivory tuxedo.

For many, the gala served as a tribute to past and present Black icons in fashion. Diana Ross, making her first appearance since 2003, captured attention with her highly detailed gown that featured embroidered names of her family members.

As attendees presented their unique interpretations of Black dandyism, the evening underscored the cultural relevance of fashion and its ability to inspire and evoke identity. The eclectic mix of styles continued throughout the night, celebrating both individual artistry and shared heritage.
