NEW YORK CITY – The 2025 Met Gala took place on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with attendees showcasing their interpretation of the theme, “Tailored for You.” This year’s gala honors the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” highlighting the contributions of Black designers in fashion.

Co-chairs for the event included ASAP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, and Colman Domingo. Honorary chair LeBron James announced he would not attend due to a knee injury, but his wife, Savannah, participated in the festivities. The purpose of the event was to celebrate designers of color, marking the first men’s wear focused exhibit hosted by the Costume Institute in two decades.

The gala showcased numerous stars arriving in unique and extravagant fashion. Rihanna made headlines with her chic, custom Marc Jacobs skirt-suit, highlighting her pregnancy. Other celebrities, such as Kim Kardashian and Janelle Monáe, stunned attendees in custom designs that ranged from elegant gowns to avant-garde suits.

Colman Domingo sported a vibrant blue cape with intricate details, transforming his look as he revealed a stylish suit beneath. A$AP Rocky donned a long coat from his own AWGE line, combined with a luxurious umbrella, while Sabrina Carpenter opted for a bodysuit and coat ensemble.

The evening featured a staggering array of designs. Lupita Nyong'o chose a pastel blue Chanel gown adorned with a bolero hat, while Halle Berry turned heads in a daring striped see-through dress. Nicki Minaj wore a striking pinstripe gown, showcasing a floral-adorned sleeve, embodying the event’s spirit of creativity.

The gala attracted fashion enthusiasts, celebrities, and designers alike, creating a dazzling display of art through clothing. As the red carpet rolled out, the evening served as a testament to the influence and legacy of Black fashion on the broader cultural landscape.

The exhibition, which opens to the public on May 10 and runs until October 26, 2025, includes a variety of historical garments and accessories that trace the impact of Black style from the 18th century to the present day.
