2025 Met Gala Highlights Black Style with “Superfine” Exhibition

NEW YORK, NY — The 2025 Met Gala is set to take place on May 5, showcasing this year’s exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” This theme focuses on the sartorial heritage of Black men and the significance of clothing in shaping Black identities.
The event, hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is known as fashion’s biggest night and attracts an A-list crowd. Arrivals begin at 5:30 p.m. ET, with celebrity guests scheduled to stroll the red carpet until 8 p.m. ET. The gala is famous for its glamorous fashion statements and the celebration of cultural expression.
The exhibition, curated by Monica L. Miller, draws from her 2009 book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” It explores the role of fashionable attire in expressing agency and identity within Black communities. Miller stated, “Black style is really related to thinking about how fashion and power connect.”
This year’s dress code, “Tailored For You,” encourages attendees to showcase their personal style through tailored menswear, drawing inspiration from past trends such as the zoot suit and the vibrant fashion worn by Congolese sapeurs. Miller emphasized the role of tailors in Black communities, noting their importance in crafting outfits for significant life events.
Among the co-chairs for this prestigious event are Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as an honorary co-chair. Notably, the gala is strictly off-limits to press, but fans can catch the red carpet livestream on platforms like YouTube and E!.
The Met Gala has a community of stars, including returning attendees like Rihanna and Zendaya. Tickets are priced at $75,000, but the final guest list remains curated by Wintour. While some are attending, prominent figures like Jack Schlossberg have opted to boycott the event, citing global and national issues.
This year’s festivities promise to be a vibrant celebration of history and style, reflecting the rich legacy of Black fashion that continues to influence cultures worldwide.
