Metallica Concert Tampa 2024

TAMPA, Fla. – Metallica, one of the best-selling bands in American history, is set to rock Raymond James Stadium this weekend with two shows as part of its M72 World Tour. The band last performed in Tampa in 2009.

This weekend’s concerts will feature a unique format called “No Repeat Weekend,” where fans can expect a different setlist and opening acts each night. Officials from Tampa Sports Authority anticipate that more than 65,000 fans will attend each concert.

Santiago Corrada, President and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay, emphasized the significance of Metallica’s return. “It shows that we are on the map to these traveling tour acts and they want to do Tampa because they do well here,” Corrada said.

The impact of big-name events like this can greatly enhance Tampa’s visibility with promoters and tourists. Corrada described Metallica’s performances as a “résumé builder,” indicating Tampa’s competitiveness with other major markets such as Miami, Orlando, and Las Vegas. “We compete with everybody, and we’re more than happy to be able to host these events and say, ‘Yeah, outside of Miami, Orlando, New York, Vegas, we have big-name acts that come to our city because we are a big city and we’re a great draw,’” he added.

The weekend also includes a broader “Metallica Takeover” of Tampa, featuring a pop-up merchandise shop in Ybor City, a screening of the band’s new film, fan art exhibits, and a volunteer event with Feeding Tampa Bay set for Friday morning. Additionally, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett will host a live discussion on Saturday at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, providing fans a closer look at his musical journey.

Diversions await concert-goers as home games will occur nearby at Steinbrenner Field during the concert days. The games are scheduled for 1:10 p.m. on Friday and 12:10 p.m. on Sunday, potentially causing heavy traffic around the venue. Parking lots for the concert will open at noon, with gates opening at 4 p.m. and shows starting at 6 p.m.

Officials are advising concert attendees to prepare for possible traffic delays on major roads including Dale Mabry Highway, Himes Avenue, Columbus Drive, and MLK Jr. Boulevard. Tom McEwen Boulevard (Tampa Bay Blvd) will also be closed between Dale Mabry and Himes from 11 a.m. Friday through Sunday night.
