Metallica Concert Lane Stadium Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Metallica delivered a spectacular performance at Lane Stadium Wednesday night, thrilling fans during a sold-out concert that fans have long anticipated. The event marked a milestone for Virginia Tech, synonymous with the band’s music, particularly the 1991 hit “Enter Sandman,” which has been played at home football games since 2000.

As part of their M72 World Tour, Metallica’s performance captivated an audience that included alumni and students alike. George Probst and Jeff Holland, both Virginia Tech graduates and avid Metallica fans, expressed excitement for the concert, which they had speculated about for years. “I know a lot of work went into it,” Probst said. “I just can’t think of a better place to see Metallica than at Virginia Tech.”

Holland added, “The rumors of Metallica playing in Blacksburg for the last 25 years have run rampant. It was just incredible to see it finally happen.” Both men have attended over 100 Metallica concerts, forming a lasting friendship through their shared passion for the band.

Fans of all ages had the chance to join the Metallica family. Adam Shorter, a first-time concertgoer, shared his excitement, saying, “I’ve been waiting since I was 13 years old. It’s finally happening.”

Virginia Tech students were equally enthusiastic, seeing the concert as a unique opportunity to experience the band responsible for their team’s iconic entrance music. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said student Justin Gutierrez.

The concert featured fan-favorite songs, leading up to the crowd-pleasing closer, “Enter Sandman.” “What can I say? We have been waiting so long to come here,” lead singer James Hetfield remarked. He added that the band was grateful to be the first major act to perform at Lane Stadium.

Amidst a backdrop of impressive pyrotechnics and an elaborate stage setup, the concert became a historic occasion for both the university and the band, solidifying its place in Virginia Tech’s lore. As fans enjoyed the exhilarating atmosphere, Metallica’s presence made it a night to remember for all in attendance.
