LOS ANGELES, CA — Vertical Entertainment released the official trailer for the upcoming film Sacramento on February 27, 2025. The comedy follows Glenn, portrayed by Michael Cera, as he embarks on a road trip with his estranged friend Rickey, played by Michael Angarano, following the death of Rickey’s father. Glenn’s pregnant wife Rosie, portrayed by Kristen Stewart, encourages him to reconnect with Rickey as they navigate their past.

Directed and co-written by Angarano, Sacramento marks his second directorial effort, following his 2017 film Avenues. The film also stars Maya Erskine, who is Angarano’s real-life partner, playing the role of Tallie.

In the trailer, we see dynamic exchanges between the characters, highlighting their vulnerabilities, humor, and shared experiences on a journey from Los Angeles to Sacramento. Angarano and Cera’s characters confront issues of maturity, friendship, and impending fatherhood.

This movie is a reunion for Angarano and Stewart, who met while filming Speak in 2004 and dated from 2005 to 2009. Angarano expressed excitement about tackling the themes of fatherhood, particularly given the cast’s own life changes during the film’s production. “It’s a movie about these two guys on the precipice of fatherhood who are entering this new chapter,” Cera stated in an interview.

The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last June, where early reviews praised the screenplay co-written by Angarano and Chris Smith. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the narrative, while occasionally light on detail, effectively captures the awkwardness of growing apart and re-establishing connections.

“This movie has this weird cosmic energy around it, where it’s life imitating art or art imitating life,” Angarano noted regarding the production journey. “At one point, we were ready to shoot the movie in Atlanta… But it’s like, why try to cheat it?”

Scheduled for theatrical release on April 11, Sacramento offers a comedic yet poignant exploration of friendship and life transitions.
