Michael C. Hall Returns as Dexter in ‘Resurrection’ Series
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Michael C. Hall has officially returned to his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in the upcoming series “Dexter: Resurrection,” which began production on Jan. 17, 2025. The actor announced the news in a video shared on social media, expressing excitement for fans to join the new chapter of the beloved franchise.
“I am on the set for the first official day of production for ‘Dexter: Resurrection,'” Hall said in the video. “I’m looking forward to another thrill ride, and when all is said and done, to you taking the ride with us. Stay tuned.” The series, a continuation of “Dexter: New Blood,” is set to premiere this summer on Paramount+ with Showtime.
Hall will reprise his role as the titular serial killer, joined by returning cast members David Zayas as Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, and James Remar as Harry Morgan. Clyde Phillips, who served as showrunner for the original series and “Dexter: New Blood,” returns in the same capacity, with Hall also executive producing alongside Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns.
Details about the plot of “Dexter: Resurrection” remain under wraps, but the series follows the events of “Dexter: New Blood,” which concluded with Dexter’s apparent death. However, the recent prequel series, “Dexter: Original Sin,” hinted at his survival, revealing that Dexter was revived after being rushed to the hospital following a gunshot wound. Creator Clyde Phillips teased that the cold weather and snow played a role in stopping his blood loss and keeping him alive.
“Dexter: Resurrection” will reportedly be set in New York City, with filming taking place in locations like Manhattan. While the villain for the new series has not been officially announced, rumors suggest Peter Dinklage may play Dexter’s foil. Other familiar faces from the original series, such as Jennifer Carpenter’s Debra Morgan, have not been confirmed to return.
The “Dexter” franchise, based on Jeff Lindsay’s novel “Darkly Dreaming Dexter,” first premiered in 2006 and ran for eight seasons until 2013. It was revived in 2021 with “Dexter: New Blood,” a limited series that brought Hall back to the role after nearly a decade. The franchise has garnered a dedicated fanbase, with Hall’s portrayal of Dexter Morgan widely regarded as one of television’s most iconic performances.
As production on “Dexter: Resurrection” continues, fans can expect more updates in the coming weeks. The series is poised to explore Dexter’s life on the run, with new challenges and adversaries awaiting the complex antihero.
