Michael Mckean Tonight Show Walk On Music

New York, NY – Actor Michael McKean will make his second appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, May 12, and fans are eager to see what unique walk-on music The Roots will select this time.

McKean, known for his role as Lenny Kosnowski on the iconic series Laverne & Shirley, is no stranger to Fallon’s house band, The Roots. The band has been celebrated for their musical talent and extensive pop culture knowledge. Back in 2016, they welcomed McKean with a rare track that showcased this talent.

On his first visit to the show, The Roots played “Foreign Novelty Smash,” a song McKean originally recorded in 1973 with the comedy group The Credibility Gap. The track wasn’t widely recognized as it had largely lived in obscurity for decades. Questlove discovered it and delivered an unforgettable rendition complete with German lyrics during McKean’s entrance.

The song was initially released as part of The Credibility Gap’s album A Great Gift Idea. Unique for its nonsensical translations, the song featured phrases that fit the melody rather than typical German translations. Critics described it as an amusing take on pop culture.

“My brassiere is too worn,” is one of the odd lines from the song that captured attention. The song eventually gained a second life in 1985 when it appeared on The World’s Worst Records, Vol. 2, yet it was The Roots’ revival that truly brought it back into the spotlight.

As McKean prepares for his second visit, fans are curious if The Roots will again tap into their pop culture expertise to find another hidden gem.
