Michelle Yeoh Returns in ‘Star Trek: Section 31’ as New Shows Hit Streaming
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Michelle Yeoh reprises her role as Capt. Philippa Georgiou in the highly anticipated film Star Trek: Section 31, set to premiere on Paramount+ on Friday, January 24, 2025. The movie marks Yeoh’s return to the Star Trek universe more than four years after the finale of Star Trek: Discovery.
In Section 31, Yeoh’s character joins a secret division tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, forcing her to confront her past sins. The film also stars Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, and Sam Richardson. Directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, the movie is the 14th installment in the Star Trek franchise.
Meanwhile, streaming platforms are rolling out a slew of new content this week. Netflix debuts the third season of its hit action-thriller The Night Agent, while Peacock releases the animated film The Wild Robot, featuring voice performances by Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, and Mark Hamill. Prime Video also premieres Blink Twice, a psychological thriller directed by Zoë Kravitz.
On the TV front, CBS introduces Watson, a procedural drama starring Morris Chestnut as Sherlock Holmes’ sidekick. TBS revives the early-2000s reality show The Joe Schmo Show, hosted by Cat Deeley, which follows an unsuspecting contestant who believes he’s competing for a cash prize.
Other notable releases include Apple TV+’s limited series Prime Target, starring Leo Woodall and Quintessa Swindell, and BET+’s spin-off The Family Business: New Orleans, featuring Yvette Nicole Brown and Orlando Jones. Acorn TV also debuts the mystery series The Gone, starring Richard Flood as an Irish detective investigating a missing persons case in New Zealand.
