Mickey Haller Faces His Toughest Challenge Yet in ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Season 3
The third season of Netflix‘s legal drama ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ has concluded with a dramatic and shocking finale that sets the stage for a potentially explosive fourth season. The series, based on Michael Connelly‘s novels, follows defense attorney Mickey Haller, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, as he navigates complex legal cases and personal challenges.
This season introduces several key plot points, including the central case of Hector Moya‘s habeas corpus appeal, which delves deep into the legal intricacies of such appeals. However, the season’s climax revolves around Mickey’s client, Sam Scales, a con artist with a history of running fake charity scams. Sam’s character is particularly noteworthy for his deceitful activities, such as soliciting donations for foster children and service animals for veterans, all while owing significant amounts of money to Mickey and his law firm.
The tension between Mickey and Sam escalates in episode 7, “Relevance,” where a verbal altercation outside the courthouse highlights the deep-seated animosity between them. Mickey’s hyperbolic threat that Sam will die if he doesn’t pay back the money takes a grim turn when Sam’s body is found in the trunk of Mickey’s car in the season finale. This twist is straight out of Michael Connelly’s book ‘The Law of Innocence,’ where a wealthy mob boss, Louis Opparizio (adapted as Alex Grant in the series), kills Sam Scales due to one of his scams and frames Mickey for the crime.
Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, who plays Mickey Haller, expressed his shock and excitement about the season’s ending in an interview with TV Insider. He noted that the stakes are higher than ever for Mickey, who now faces the challenge of defending himself against a murder charge. Garcia-Rulfo is eager to explore this new dynamic in a potential fourth season, where Mickey will have to navigate being on the other side of the law.
The season also introduced a new romantic subplot for Mickey, involving his rival from Season 2, Andrea, played by Yaya DaCosta. However, this relationship was short-lived, reflecting Mickey’s ongoing struggles with personal relationships and his tendency to thrive in chaotic situations.
