Microsoft Raises Xbox Prices Across Consoles and Games

REDMOND, Wash. — Microsoft announced today it is raising prices on Xbox consoles, controllers, and games, effective immediately.
The price increases will affect Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, as well as associated accessories. While some game prices are set to remain unchanged for now, reports suggest new first-party games will increase to $79.99 during the upcoming holiday season.
According to Microsoft’s statement, these changes were made after careful consideration of market conditions and development costs. The company emphasized its commitment to providing more gaming options across various devices, saying, “We understand that these changes are challenging.”
Among the new prices, U.S. customers can expect the Xbox Series X to retail for $599.99, up from $499.99. The 1TB Xbox Series S will now be priced at $429.99, an increase of $80. Microsoft also raised prices on accessories such as controllers and headsets, with wireless controllers now starting at $64.99 and special edition models priced higher.
Despite the price hikes, Microsoft assured fans that smaller games would continue to be priced competitively. Analysts suggest the maximum price of $80 may be applicable to major titles like an upcoming Call of Duty game. The company’s Xbox Games Showcase event in June is expected to provide further details.
These adjustments come as the gaming industry has seen increased prices across various brands, including recent hikes from PlayStation in several countries. Analysts predict that the entire industry may continue to face similar price adjustments due to global economic pressures.
In the face of these changes, Microsoft aims to enhance its value proposition for gamers with solutions like Xbox Game Pass and cross-platform play options.
