Mike Fornes to Honor Gordon Lightfoot at Escanaba Tribute Concert

ESCANABA, Mich. — Mike Fornes will perform in The Gordon Lightfoot Tribute on Thursday at the Besse Theater, starting at 7 p.m. This concert celebrates the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, one of Lightfoot’s most famous songs.
The tribute is part of Bay College‘s 2025 tour, titled ‘Lightfoot – The Stories, The Songs.’ Audiences will hear classic hits and album favorites performed live by Fornes, who captures Lightfoot’s essence.
Throughout the concert, Fornes shares stories behind iconic songs. He explains, ‘These songs are heart-wrenching at times, romantic beyond measure, and sorrowful at the loss of a love.’
Some highlights include ‘Sundown,’ a song inspired by a troubled relationship, and ‘If You Could Read My Mind,’ which reflects Lightfoot’s feelings about divorce aimed at his daughter.
The performance will include a multimedia presentation featuring Lightfoot’s own insights. Fornes creates an authentic experience using identical guitars and stage settings from Lightfoot’s concerts.
Tickets for the event are priced at $20, with a discount to $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at baycollege.tix.com, at the Besse Center Box Office, or by calling 906-217-4062. This show promises not just music but a heartfelt journey through the life and stories of Gordon Lightfoot.
