Mikey Madison Masque Of The Red Death

Los Angeles, CA – Oscar-winning actress Mikey Madison is in negotiations to star in a new adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe‘s classic tale, ‘The Masque of the Red Death.’ This re-imagining, helmed by filmmaker Charlie Polinger, is set to be produced by Picturestart and distributed worldwide by A24.

Sources report that Madison will portray twin sisters in the film, which follows a mad prince who invites the wealthy elite into his castle during a devastating plague. One twin, hidden among the lower class, infiltrates the castle and becomes embroiled in a world of decadence and chaos. The film is noted for its dark comedic elements and is expected to resonate with younger audiences.

Madison’s recent surge in popularity follows her performance in ‘Anora,’ which garnered her an Academy Award for Best Actress. Since then, she has been selective in choosing her roles, opting out of several projects, including a villain role in a ‘Star Wars’ spin-off.

Originally, Sydney Sweeney was attached to the lead role but stepped back due to scheduling conflicts with her ongoing commitments, including filming for ‘Euphoria‘ and an adaptation of the Japanese property ‘Gundam.’

Production for ‘The Masque of the Red Death’ is expected to commence in late 2025 or early 2026. This project promises to deliver a unique take on Poe’s narrative, incorporating themes of class struggle, opulence, and revenge set against the backdrop of a plague.

Madison’s previous roles include notable performances in ‘Scream’ and ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.’ She is represented by UTA and Authentic Talent.
