Minecraft Turtle Shell Gameplay Features

May 5, 2025, MINECRAFT UNIVERSE — Minecraft players can now enhance their in-game experience with Turtle Shells, a new feature in the Bedrock Edition that offers water breathing abilities and additional armor protection.

To obtain a Turtle Shell, players need to gather scutes, which are produced when turtles breed. Turtles spawn naturally on beach biomes in groups of 2-6, typically during the daytime when they are more active. After finding turtles, players must feed them seagrass to encourage breeding.

Once the turtles breed, they dig in the sand to lay eggs, which need protection from hostile mobs as they hatch. After the baby turtles grow into adults, they drop scutes. A total of five scutes is needed to craft one Turtle Shell.

In crafting a Turtle Shell, players should place the scutes in a specific pattern on the crafting table—three in the top row, and one each in the middle-left and middle-right slots. After the craft, the Turtle Shell can be added to the player’s inventory.

This new item not only provides practical benefits, such as improved water survival, but it also opens possibilities for enchanting, allowing for added underwater exploration.

The game’s developers at Mojang hope this feature will enhance players’ overall gameplay experience, providing both utility and a fun new aesthetic in Minecraft.
