A Minecraft Movie Streaming Premiere Set for June 20

BURBANK, California — Warner Bros. and Legendary have announced that the highly anticipated film, A Minecraft Movie, will begin streaming globally on June 20. Viewers can also catch its debut on HBO linear on June 21 at 8:00 p.m. ET. An ASL version performed by Deaf ASL Interpreter Sophia Morales will be available exclusively on Max as the film hits streaming.
A Minecraft Movie follows four misfits — Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, played by Jason Momoa, Henry (Sebastian Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers), and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) — who are thrust into the Overworld, a bizarre, cubic wonderland. To return home, they must navigate the challenges of this imaginative realm and fend off threats like Piglins and Zombies, with the help of the expert crafter, Steve (Jack Black).
Directed by Jared Hess, the film has already seen considerable success, grossing over $951 million worldwide since its theatrical release in April. It currently stands as the second-highest-grossing film of the year and the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, only behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
The film’s script was crafted by Chris Bowman & Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener & Gavin James, and Chris Galletta. A talented production team includes Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, and Momoa, alongside executive producers such as Todd Hallowell and Jay Ashenfelter.
Despite mixed reviews from critics, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 47%, A Minecraft Movie has successfully captured the attention of families and younger audiences. Movie consultant David A. Gross commented, “Reviews are not good, but these pictures are made for moviegoers, not critics. When a release catches fire like this, it generates its own momentum.”
A Minecraft Movie’s worldwide gross is especially notable considering it operated with a production budget of $150 million. Its lucrative $313 million global debut was the best of 2025, setting new records for video game adaptations.
No sequel has been officially confirmed yet, but Warner Bros. co-chairmen Mike de Luca and Pam Abdy hinted that further developments may be imminent. “It would be so much fun to create another adventure in this expansive world,” de Luca stated.
