U.S. Mint Unveils Special Marine Corps 250th Anniversary Silver Eagle Coin
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Mint launched the 250th Anniversary U.S. Marine Corps 2025-P Proof American Silver Eagle today at noon ET. This limited edition coin honors the Marine Corps with a special privy mark and aims for strong demand amidst military appreciation.
With only 100,000 one-ounce, .999 fine silver coins available, the sales began promptly. Each household is limited to purchasing one Marine Corps Silver Eagle for the first 24 hours to ensure broader access amongst collectors. The U.S. Marine Corps was founded on November 10, 1775, in Philadelphia, originally established to serve both land and naval combat roles.
Today’s release marks the Mint’s fourth special American Silver Eagle this year, continuing the tradition of commemorating significant anniversaries. Previous military-themed coins sold out rapidly, often within hours, and are known to fetch higher prices on secondary markets.
The design of the Marine Corps coin mirrors that of earlier American Silver Eagles, featuring the classic Walking Liberty motif created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916. Liberty is elegantly portrayed draped in the flag, capturing a historic military spirit.
Inscriptions on the coin include “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year “2025” alongside Weinman’s signature. The reverse showcases an eagle landing with an oak branch, symbolizing strength and resilience.
Priced at $105, the coin comes in a luxurious blue velvet case with a certificate of authenticity. The price reflects a slight increase from traditional Proof American Silver Eagles released earlier this year.
As demand peaks, it is anticipated the Marine Corps Silver Eagle will sell out quickly, following the trend of previous exclusive releases.
