Miss Universe Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina Enugu

Chidimma Adetshina, the reigning Miss Universe Nigeria, was welcomed in a heartwarming homecoming ceremony in Enugu State, Nigeria, earlier this week. The beauty queen was greeted by a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters who celebrated her arrival with traditional Nigerian music, balloons, and a placard that read, ‘Welcome home, our queen.’

Adetshina, adorned in her Miss Universe sash and crown, expressed visible joy as she received gifts and hugs from the assembled crowd. In a moment of affection, she was seen sharing a heartfelt hug with her grandfather, who offered prayers for her success as she prepares to compete in the prestigious Miss Universe contest in Mexico this November.

Born to a Nigerian father and a Mozambican mother in South Africa, Adetshina embraces her multicultural background. She mentioned that her last visit to Nigeria was at the age of three, a short stay before moving back to South Africa. Previously, she withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition amid an investigation by Home Affairs concerning her citizenship, subsequently joining Miss Universe Nigeria.

Upon winning the title, Adetshina expressed her profound connection with her Nigerian heritage, emphasizing her desire to return and make a difference. “I’m really excited to learn the language. I am Igbo, but I don’t know the Igbo language. I want to learn,” she stated, referencing her upbringing in Cape Town, where she witnessed a vibrant Nigerian community.

In her role as Miss Universe Nigeria, Adetshina participated in various community activities, including a visit to an IDP camp in Abuja, where she engaged with community members and distributed food. She also celebrated Nigeria’s Independence Day, dressed in traditional attire, underscoring the significance of the nation’s cultural diversity and historical heritage.

“As Miss Universe Nigeria, I embody a nation rich in cultural diversity, deep-rooted historical heritage, and unwavering resilience,” she remarked. “Independence Day is not just a day to celebrate our freedom; it’s a day to showcase our unity, love, harmony, and strength as a nation.” Her personal story and public appearances aim to raise awareness about diversity and unity in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the investigation into her citizenship status in South Africa continues.
