JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Mississippi state trooper has been placed on administrative leave following serious allegations of sexual battery. Zachary Reshad McCroy, who was arrested on Thursday, is currently out on a $100,000 unsecured bond with GPS monitoring, according to a spokesperson from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

Bailey Martin, representing the Department of Public Safety, confirmed that McCroy is on leave pending the outcome of a due process hearing, as stipulated by Mississippi State Personnel Board policy. “We are aware of the serious allegations against the trooper and are committed to following protocol during this investigation,” Martin stated.

The investigation remains open, and no additional comments regarding the allegations have been provided at this time, Martin added. McCroy was taken into custody in Jackson and subsequently released after posting bond.

In 2024, McCroy was recognized as “Top Cop” for his service with the Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop C Enforcement Division. The charges against him have led to a significant response from the department, emphasizing their commitment to integrity and accountability.

As the investigation unfolds, the Department of Public Safety has assured the public that information will be disclosed as appropriate. Mississippi Highway Patrol personnel are trained to uphold the law, making these allegations particularly serious for the agency.

Community members are urged to come forward if they have any information related to the case. This developing story will continue to be monitored, with updates expected as more details are made available.
